Most would think Gatorade Sports Science Institute was in Florida, but it is in Barrington IL. West of Chicago. Paul Huddle, Roch Frey and Paula Newby Frasier ran a multisports.com nutrition camp with 11 other athletes and I was invited to attend the camp by Kris Osterberg, the GSSI person, she invited me to partake in the sweat rate testing part of the camp
I learned at GSSI that to increase gastric emptying, stick with liquids, no solids, stay hydrated with Gatorade Endurance Formula. I did a 2 hour computrainer and 2 hour treadmill run to test my sweat rate, in 85 degrees, no air movement, HOT, lots of sweating. During the 4 hours at IM pace training, I doubled my intake of fluids, I drank 24 ounces GE every 30 minutes, cut my food calories in half, ate 1 powerbar on bike with 16 ounces water, and ate 2 gels with water on the run. I lost the least amount of body weight compared to the 11 other athletes, and performed very well.
I also had a Bod Pod body fat comp done and a VO2 max test done. Meet with Monique Ryan, MSRD, for nutrition consultation. Will have full results August 15th.
Paul Huddle and a few other GSSI people complimented me on my running form, Roch and Paula were not there to see me, and were impressed that I negatively split my 2 hour bike and 2 hour run. I biked bout 40 miles and ran 14.5 miles.
Fun experience.
